If you thought the Great Kyler Murray Height Debate was laid to rest, you were oh so wrong.
The freshly minted No. 1 pick at the 2019 NFL draft was a topic of conversation for months before the Arizona Cardinals made the selection, with much of the questioning surrounding his height. He was definitively measured at 5-foot-10 at the Scouting Combine in March, which answered all the queries.
Or did it?
As eagle-eyed Action Network reporter Darren Rovell pointed out, NFL Network host Melissa Stark — measuring in at 5-foot-4 before adding in her draft night heels — was about the same height as Murray as she interviewed him in Nashville. She later confirmed on Twitter that her shoes did not provide a 6-inch boost.
So how does one explain the disparity? Camera angles or uneven stage flooring? Tricks of light? Weird physics around Nissan Stadium? Is the NFL in on some kind of height conspiracy with Murray and the Cardinals? Did the Oakland Athletics know about this?
Maybe the better question here is, does anyone actually care? The Cardinals sure didn’t.
Russell Wilson’s less than ideal height hasn’t stopped the Seahawks’ QB from winning a Super Bowl or becoming the highest-paid player in the game, so maybe it’s time to let Murray enjoy his big moment before his play speaks for him when he finally hits the NFL field.
